Mony’s Fishers Swim School

About our School

We are proud to share the story behind Mony’s Fishers Swim School — a swim school built on passion, experience and a deep commitment to water safety and confidence.

With over 75+ years of combined experience, Mony’s Fishers Swim School has been making waves in the community since 1995. Our journey has always been guided by a love for water education and a strong belief that swimming is a vital life skill that everyone deserves the opportunity to learn.

Our Unique Approach

Our Philosophy

At Mony’s Fishers Swim School, we believe that for swimmers to excel, they must first master the FUNdamentals. We build a strong FUNdation by teaching the correct swimming skills and techniques while adapting every lesson to the needs, expectations and emotional comfort of each swimmer.

We prioritise safety before strokes, ensuring that swimmers are waterborne and water safe before progressing further. Lessons are structured to eliminate fear and anxiety, replacing them with confidence, trust and enjoyment in the water. Our instructors guide swimmers through consistent progressions using positive reinforcement, routine and repetition.

Alicia Perkins

I am currently one of the sub teachers, and I teach Learn to Swim and Stroke Correction, helping swimmers of all ages build confidence and skill in the water.

I first became a swimming instructor because I discovered a love for teaching and helping little minds and abilities grow. I’ve always believed that swimming is not only a vital life skill but also a joyful and empowering experience.

Teaching here at Mony’s Fishers has been such a rewarding journey because of the friendly, family-like environment and the incredible progress we get to see in every swimmer.

I have seven years of experience teaching swimming and have been part of Mony’s Fishers for seven years, which has truly shaped me as both an instructor and a person.

Angie Palm- Phillips

I teach Learn to Swim and Beginner Stroke, and strokes classes, sharing my love and passion for helping children gain confidence in the water. Becoming a swimming instructor was a natural path for me , I truly believe swimming is a vital life skill. I’ve been part of Mony’s Fishers Swim School for many years, and it truly feels like home. I basically grew up here, and now my own children swim here too. In addition to swim coaching, I’m also trained in Play Therapy and Sand Tray Therapy, and I work as a preschool teacher during the week in the 1–2-year-old phase.

Cherne Midgley

I currently teach Learn to Swim and Stroke Correction, but I also have experience teaching both adults and babies. I’ve been teaching at Mony’s Fishers Swim School for three years now, although I actually started teaching swimming back in 2017. I became a swimming instructor because I have an absolute passion for swimming and a genuine love for children and I truly enjoy helping both children and adults learn how to swim. I love teaching at Mony’s Fishers Swim School because of the one-on-one lessons. They allow me to give each swimmer my full attention, which helps them learn more easily. The environment is peaceful, the atmosphere is delightful, and the pool is absolutely stunning! I’ve earned provincial colours for swimming three years in a row, competed at Nationals for the 3km and 5km open-water events, and even represented in Dubai. I’ve also completed the Midmar Mile for 11 years. Swimming is in my blood. In addition to swimming, I’m an internationally qualified Natural Holistic Therapist. I run my own salon, where I focus on Sports Massage, Manual Lymph Drainage, and a range of other therapies. I also hold a Level 3 First Aid certification.

Christen Perkins

I first became a swim instructor because I thought it would be such a fun way to work with kids and help them grow their confidence in the water, and I was right!

I’ve been teaching swimming for four years now, and I absolutely love it. The environment at Mony’s Fishers is so supportive and positive, everyone truly wants the best for each other and for our swimmers, which makes coming to work every day so rewarding.

Alongside teaching, I’m also finishing my studies in interior design, my other big passion. I’ve always been creative, a bit of a

I love Mony’s Fishers Swim School because the pool feels magical – at any moment it is filled with kids who are excited to be in and around water, teachers who are eager to awaken an appreciation for water and swimming in their students, and parents who are proud and elated to watch their children learn and grow.

I’ve been teaching swimming for 8 years, all of them at Mony’s Fishers Swim School.

I have a BHSc in Biokinetics and a BSc in Mathematics. I also hold my open water lifesaving certificate.

I have a strong passion for swimming, particularly in open water. I’ve swum the Midmar Mile every year since 2015, which has led to a 10km swim across Langebaan lagoon and a Robben Island crossing in 2021, followed by the Midmar Mile 8-mile Club in 2022.

What I love about teaching:

Babies:
I love being able to be a part of the foundation of their swimming experience and watching as they grow with confidence in the water.

Children:
I love being able to build a bond with the child and seeing their progress.

Adults:
It is so rewarding helping adults grow confident in the water and sharing that journey with them.

If I had to be specific, though, I really love taking someone from not being able to swim and helping them to learn to swim.

Courtney Allnutt

There’s something quietly powerful about watching a child go from clinging to the pool edge to swimming freely, and that moment is exactly why I do this. I’m Courtney, and while I’m currently working towards my Honours in Counselling, my love for children is what keeps me motivated. I spent most of my undergrad years working in childcare, and after a brief detour into corporate life, I knew without a doubt where I needed to be.

I’m still early in my journey as a swim instructor, but it’s already taught me more than I expected. Watching a child master something as vital as swimming never stops feeling special. And on the harder days, the ones where I’m not quite myself, it’s often the kids in the water who never fail to cheer me up.

Being part of their progress, one stroke at a time, is an immense privilege.

Samantha Herrington

I teach Learn to Swim, Baby class, Team class and Adults. At first, I was hesitant going into this line of work, I wasn’t sure i had the confidence or patience to teach others, however, once I started I quickly realised how rewarding it was to help others overcome their fears, build new skills and just have fun in the water.

Seeing the progress of each swimmer – from their first splash to swimming on their own – made me realize that teaching swimming isn’t just something I can do, its something I’m truly passionate about.

The supportive environment the team brings to every lesson truly sets it apart, its a place where both instructors and students feel valued and inspired to reach their full potential.

With eight years of teaching experience at Monys Fishers Swim School, I’ve had the privilege of helping swimmers of all ages build skills and develop a true comfort and enjoyment in the water.

Taneil Vieira

My name is Taneil Vieira, and I’m proud to be one of the dedicated instructors at Mony’s Fishers Swim School, where I currently teach Learn to Swim, Stroke Correction, and Adult Lessons.

I’ve been teaching swimming for six years, all of which I’ve spent here at Mony’s Fishers Swim School — a place that truly feels like home.

I became a swimming instructor because I’ve always been passionate about the water and the life-changing confidence that comes from learning how to swim. There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing my swimmers progress — from overcoming their initial fear of the water to swimming confidently and with joy.

Teaching swimming is not just about strokes and technique; it’s about building trust, resilience, and a lifelong love for the water.

I teach younger swimmers and beginners, and I especially enjoy working with little ones who are just starting their swimming journey.
A little bit about me , Im study mechanical engineering. I’m a very patient and positive person, and I really enjoy working with children. Seeing their progress, no matter how small, is something that means a lot to me.
Swimming is close to my heart because it’s such an important life skill, and I believe every child should feel safe and confident in the water. Teaching swimming is rewarding because I get to be part of that journey and help make a difference in their lives.
